Think of the experiences as “brain exercise disguised as entertainment”. To get the most benefit, do some of the Guided Breathing both before and after the Light/Sound experience.

Like any exercise, some regularity generates the best results.

Our brain is physical just as our entire body. In a way, it is strange to discuss the brain as though it is separate from the soma/body. So much of what we know about the wellness of our soma/body also applies to our brain. Our soma needs a variety of activities in order to perform at a higher level of efficiency. So does our brain.

To keep it simple, let's consider the brain and mind to be a unified expression. Different brain states and different mind states have an intimate relationship. The sessions found in the Mind States Collection explore this relationship with experiences of integrated light and sound brain signaling. Each session is designed with a particular intent, theme or purpose (technically called a "vector"). Consider a simple analogy - a musician decides to compose an instrumental song - no lyrics, not even a title. The musician has a certain "intention" as to what sort of feeling he/she wants to express - perhaps sadness. The listener, when hearing the song (without any explanation from the musician) will likely have the "feeling" or emotion of sadness or grief grow as they listen to the "sad song". Technically, this sad song is just a collection of notes, rhythms, pitches, timbres and so on - yet it can successfully conjure up a "feeling state" that is not the result of thinking or ideas.

There no guarantee that the listener will experience "sadness" but it is very "probable" that they will do so. This principle is true of all of the sessions in the Mind States Collection. Each session is built upon neurological light/sound signaling that has the ability to generate "probability states". These experiences will cause a short term and temporary Mind STATE. Over time and if repeated, the brain will learn more how to rest in this STATE and slowly begin to create a long term and learned Mind TRAIT. as a result of actual neuroplastic change in the brain. So, the sessions in Mind States can be used as "Help Right Now" stimulation for positive short term Mind STATES as well as laying the foundation for positive long term Mind TRAITS.

1) How do I know which session to use?

Understandably, the menu of Mind State sessions can look like a box of assorted chocolates (personally, I don't like the coconut ones). You will notice that the sessions are divided into "themes". Start there. You can be attracted by a need you have or simply what looks interesting. Other than the theme category, the actual session name and little description is pretty helpful in making a choice. Keep in mind that all the Mind States sessions are offered in two versions - the Standard and the Lite. The Lite version is similar in effects to the Standard version but the challenge aspect is toned down to make for an easier "ride" for some users. All good.

2) Is the experience the same for every person?

It is good to consider the "probability state" concept. For example, you watch a comedy movie and have a big laugh. For you, it is very humorous, even hilarious so you recommend it to a friend. There is no guarantee they will find it as funny as you - there is just a "probability" of a similar response. Even for you, the same movie may not be as funny again because it also depends on your mood at the time.

3) I felt kind of dizzy at the end of the session. Is that OK?

The light/sound experience takes place within your brain which is a big difference from our normal open eyes and ears sensory habits. When the light/sound ends is actually the beginning of an important phase of neurological integration. Please give your brain a little time to begin to "digest" this dynamic information. Including some Guided Breathing at the end of the light/sound is a huge benefit as well. If no breathing, simply give time to feel your entire body and let your awareness merge with all the body sensations. The main reason for dizziness is rushing out of the light/sound experience too quickly.

We offer early sessions to lock in your response to first light, mid-day sessions for relaxation and stress relief, and evening sessions to induce sleep. We aim to reset your body’s natural Circadian movements for better sleep patterns.

Better Sleep

These sessions work to harmonize your Circadian Cycle and normalize sleep patterns.

To start the day we have the early sessions (6am-9am) which lock in the Circadian response to first light. Some of the sessions (9am-5pm) help you learn to consciously relax when needed.
Others (5pm-7pm) act to dissipate the buildup of stress that can hijack your sleep rhythms later in the day.
Lastly, some of the sessions (7pm-9pm) will act to coax and induce sleep later on.

The goal is to shift your Circadian Cycle back into its natural movements.

Sleep is a precious experience and our health requires regular adequate time in this unique state. Our relationship to Life on Earth is harmonized in the rhythms of our Circadian Cycle which is at the heart of regulation and restoration. Modern lifestyles make it easy to lose touch with our natural rhythms and disturbed sleep can be the result. Consequently, reflecting on our general 24 hour states and activities will have a direct correspondence to our experience of sleep.

Our Circadian Cycle has four (4) unique aspects and we transition in and out of these four on a basic biological level. The four aspects are: 1) Waking, 2) Sleep, 3) Sleeping Dreams, 4) Waking Dreams. Many of us are not familiar with the "Waking Dreams" aspect even though it is entirely natural and biologically imprinted into our organism.

The Waking Dreams can have different names that may be more familiar as they relate to the transitioning in and out of Sleep. The Waking Dream state that occurs as we transition from Waking to Sleeping is called "hypnagogia" and the transition between Sleeping and Waking is "hypnopompia". These unique states can also be summoned during the Waking daytime with a little practice in deep conscious relaxation and even short naps. Neurologically, Waking Dreams are sometime referred to as "Light Sleep".

Waking Dreams can be considered the Fourth State of Consciousness. This Fourth State is fundamental to a healthy Circadian Cycle. If any of the four states (Waking, Sleeping, Sleeping Dreams, Waking Dreams) are extracted from our Circadian Cycle, we will become ill in various ways. Because of modern lifestyle and the prevailing use of electricity, we end up with bright nights and dim (indoor) days. We seldom devote any time to the creative darkness and deep conscious relaxation that comes easily in these ambiance. The result is a Fourth State Deficiency Syndrome and one of the chief symptoms of this troublesome syndrome is disturbed sleep.

1) Can my day/night rhythms be moved back to natural cycles?

Our Circadian Cycle is deeply embedded in our physiology. It can be slowly disrupted in a negative way and also slowly adjusted in positive ways. So, yes your rhythms can move back to healthy natural cycles. One way is with proper exposure to different aspects of light. Another way is to coax the brain using certain brain frequency stimulations. Combining both light and brain signals can have a great effect in resetting your Circadian Cycle.

2) I heard that I should avoid all bright light in the evening. Is that true?

In general yes but not absolutely. Red light doesn't much disturb the melatonin sensitive responses in our brain which kick into action around 10 to 11 pm. Surprisingly, research claims that short exposures to bright light between 7 and 9 pm can actually increase the sleepy state later in the evening.

3) How long will it take for my sleep to improve using these sessions?

Not one absolute answer to that very reasonable question. Some people report a very quick response - even the first night after a session which is surprising. Test it out more slowly and experiment accordingly. Sleep problems can have a variety of causes. Notice that the Better Sleep sessions are separated into different styles of influence and recommended at different times of the day and evening. Using common sense about caffeine, exercise and stressfu behaviors is highly recommended.

4) Am I supposed to fall asleep when I do the Sessions?

In general, the Better Sleep sessions are used as part of an effort to harmonize your Circadian Cycle. The result is a more satisfyingly regular sleep experience. People may fall asleep in a session if they are already fatigued or sleep deprived. Many of us don't realize how fatigued we are because we operate that way much of the time. Caffeine use is good indicator of underlying fatigue. With underlying fatigue a person may easily fall asleep during a light/sound session.

The Brain Gym has the following distinct areas...

Brain Builder: The Brain Builder section of the Brain Gym focuses on the fundamental dynamics that form the foundation of all the full Brain States sessions. The theory is parallel to the training principles found in Sports Medicine.

Brain Stabilizer: The Brain Stabilizer section of the Brain Gym acts to reinforce basic ordered conditions in your brain. The sessions are developed using classic Brain Entrainment principles and therefore differ from the majority of NeuroVizr sessions which use Brain Engagement and Brain Enrichment designs to trigger neuroplastic Change in the brain.

Brain Organizer: The Brain Organizer section of the Brain Gym is crafted with the most current and leading-edge neurological research that explores the frequency characteristics of the main neural networks of our brain. Each network performs certain specific general functions. Each network also has a certain specific Harmonic Frequencies. The aim of the Brain Organizer sessions is to reinforce healthy functioning in the target brain network.

1) Why would someone want to use the Brain Gym?

Think of the relationship between doing exercise and playing a sport. In this case, the short 5 minute Brain Gyms sessions are the "exercise" and the Mind States and Better Sleep are the "sports". Exercises allow you to focus on building increased capacity in a targeted way in certain specific areas. Once the targeted capacity increases, that aspect of the sport will improve. So, if certain Mind States or even Better Sleep sessions seem a bit too challenging, doing some basic Brain Gym exercises can help.

2) How do I know which exercise to use in the Brain Gym?

The four types of brain exercise found in the Brain Gym are derived from sports medicine concepts. Coordination is similar to agility training that allows you make multiple sequences accurately. Flexibility relates to increasing degrees of complexity in the patterns of response. Endurance involves how long you can maintain activity and at what speed or rate. Strength associates with the intensity of challenge in a process. So, if Mind State/Better Sleep sessions are hard to follow and you lose attention, work with Coordination. If the sessions seem to jump around and it is hard to stay with the changes, work with Flexibility. If it is tough to maintain comfortable attention with the speed or rate of changes in the signals, work with Endurance. If the signaling seems to strong and demanding, work with Strength. It is not a perfect science so some exploration is also fine.

3) What is the meaning of the 1, 2, 3 rating scale?

When understanding the change dynamics of the brain (neuroplasticity), we consider the relationship between "neuroplastic capacity" and "neuroplastic demand". In other words, how well your brain can handle certain levels or degrees of signal processing. A Brain Gym "exercise" (eg. Flexibility) has three different versions in its signal design. A #1 is like a Beginner level, #2 is Intermediate and #3 is Advanced. It just means the higher the number, the more demanding this particular type of exercise. Use common sense and start with #1. If and when it seems very easy and comfortable, move to #2 and similarly to #3 according to your own personal experience.

4) Are the exercises in the Brain Gym similar to the brain exercises that I see online in the internet?

Most "brain exercises" found on the internet (and also suggested by various authorities) are neurologically "top-down" actions involving cognition and mental challenges like crossword puzzles or learning new languages. The Brain Gym approach is called "bottom-up" and uses more of the sensory aspects of experience. These "bottom-up" light and sound experiences are closer to physical exercise and movements which are also very helpful in exercising your brain. When you move your body, you also move your brain. The NeuroVizr Brain Gym can be considered brain exercise disguised as entertainment.
